What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Comments

This site does not have a comment system. No comment data is collected from visitors — no names, email addresses, IP addresses or browser user agent strings — and nothing is sent to the Gravatar service.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Contact forms

This site has one form, at Support & feedback. It sends your message, and the email address and screenshot you optionally add, to me. Nothing else on the site collects anything you type.

Cookies

The only cookies this site sets are Google Analytics ones. They let it count a visit once, and tell a returning reader from a new one. They carry no name, email or account, because the site has none of those — there is no login and no comment form.

If you play an embedded video, the provider may set cookies of its own — see “Embedded content from other websites” below.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Analytics

This site uses Google Analytics 4, through the Firebase project that hosts it, to count visits and see which pages and apps people actually read. It records the pages you open, the site that referred you, an approximate location worked out from your IP address, and your device and browser type. Google processes that on my behalf; GA4 does not log full IP addresses, and I do not use any of it for advertising or remarketing.

If you would rather not be counted, Google publishes an opt-out browser add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout, and any content blocker that blocks googletagmanager.com stops the measurement outright. Nothing on this site depends on it.

The site is served by Firebase Hosting (Google), which separately keeps standard web-server request logs — IP address, user agent, requested URL and timestamp — to serve the site and protect it from abuse.

Who we share your data with

I do not sell or share your data. Some of my apps carry advertising through Google AdMob — each app's own privacy policy says whether it does — and this domain publishes the corresponding ads.txt and app-ads.txt authorisation files so advertisers can verify my inventory.

My apps also report anonymous usage to Google Firebase Analytics, the same measurement this site uses. What each app records, and what it never records, is set out in that app's own privacy policy.

How long we retain your data

This site stores no personal data of its own, so there is nothing to retain. There are no comments and no user accounts.

If you write to me through the feedback form, I keep the message so I can reply and keep track of the conversation. I do not add your address to any mailing list.

What rights you have over your data

You can ask me what personal data I hold about you and ask me to delete it. In practice that means any message you have sent through the feedback form, since the site itself stores nothing else. This does not include any data I am obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where we send your data

Nothing you send this site is passed on to anyone else. Apart from the feedback form, the site is static, so the only data leaving your browser is the web request itself, logged by Firebase Hosting as described under “Analytics” above.

The site is served over HTTPS. It is a static site with no user accounts and no store of personal data; a message you send through the feedback form is held in Google Firebase, and only I can read it.
